Community Outreach
As an important part of our mission, the Volunteer Center builds partnerships and leads collaborations in the community to meet local need. In addition to our yearly food and backpack drives, in 2011 the Volunteer Center became a partner agency in two Pascale Sykes funded initiatives: The Heart of Gloucester County and the Connected Mentoring Advocacy.
The Heart of Gloucester County
The Heart of Gloucester County is a one-stop resource providing information, resources and personalized support to overcome the many challenges facing today’s families. Specifically, HGC provides one-on-one assistance to families via an in person consultation or via email, a dedicated phone line or an on-line chat line. Rather than calling dozens of numbers for assistance, Gloucester County families can now call ONE number to get the help they need. Through the resource specialists at the Heart of Gloucester County, families have access to up-to-date information, referrals to important services, free life-skills classes, fun family recreational activities and more.
Heart of Gloucester County is a collaborative of local non-profits working together as a team to help struggling families on the path to building self sufficiency. To become a Heart of Gloucester County volunteer, contact Cody Miller at the Volunteer Center at 856-415-9084 or cmille27@gccnj.edu.
To contact the Heart of Gloucester County directly, call 856-579-8252 or e-mail them at info@heartofgloucestercounty.org
People for People Foundation is the lead agency for the Heart of Gloucester County collaboration.
Connected Mentoring Advocacy (CMA)
The Connected Mentoring Advocacy initiative connects volunteer mentors with families working toward independence and economic stability. Serving as an advisor and bridge to valuable resources, the mentor will offer the support and guidance needed to help families develop strengths and opportunities, define and achieve goals, and celebrate successes. Our mentors support and empower two-adult households to build self-sufficiency and provide connections for a better, more joyous life. If you are interested in mentoring a family please give Cody Miller a call at 856-415-9084 or email cmille27@gccnj.edu.
